As automotive intelligence continues to evolve, automotive displays are rapidly advancing toward larger sizes, curved and ultra-wide screens, multi-display integration, OLED, HUDs, and smart cockpits. These trends place higher demands on the performance and long-term reliability of optical bonding materials.

LCD remains the mainstream display technology in automotive applications, while OLED adoption continues to grow. In 2025, LCD accounted for approximately 65% of the automotive display market, while the OLED segment is expected to maintain a CAGR of approximately 10.6% through 2031. As automotive displays move toward larger sizes and higher-end applications, demand for functional OCA materials is also increasing.

At the same time, automotive displays operate under demanding conditions, including prolonged exposure to sunlight, elevated temperatures, and continuous vibration. These environments place greater demands on the optical stability, weatherability, and long-term reliability of OCA materials. For OLED displays in particular, prolonged UV exposure can accelerate the aging of certain sensitive materials, potentially affecting the optical performance and long-term reliability of the display module. As a result, UV protection is becoming an increasingly important function for OCA materials used in high-end automotive displays.

Complex Application Environments Demand Enhanced UV Protection

Conventional automotive displays typically rely on dedicated UV-blocking layers or coatings for UV protection. However, these approaches may increase the number of structural layers and process complexity. As automotive displays continue to evolve toward thinner and more integrated designs, incorporating UV protection directly into the OCA represents a promising technical approach.

To address the requirements for UV protection and long-term reliability in automotive displays, CROWN has developed UV Cut OCA, integrating UV-blocking functionality into the OCA system. While providing optical bonding, it effectively reduces UV transmission into the display module and helps minimize long-term UV-related effects on internal materials. With adhesive thicknesses ranging from 25–250 μm, the product features an acid-free adhesive formulation, offering excellent stability and aging resistance. It is designed to meet the requirements of different automotive display structures and bonding processes.

Effective UV Blocking with High Visible-Light Transmittance

CROWN UV Cut OCA delivers excellent spectral selectivity, effectively blocking UV radiation while maintaining high visible-light transmittance:

360 nm: T ≤ 1% — effectively blocks short-wavelength UV radiation.

380 nm: T ≤ 2% — further reduces UV transmission into the display module.

420 nm: T ≥ 90% — maintains high visible-light transmittance while providing effective UV protection.

By effectively blocking UV wavelengths while maintaining high transmittance in the visible-light range, UV Cut OCA balances display protection with optical performance, providing stable and reliable optical bonding for automotive displays.

Excellent Aging Resistance for Long-Term Reliability

In addition to UV protection, CROWN UV Cut OCA provides excellent aging resistance and environmental reliability, demonstrated through 1,000 h long-term aging testing.

Its durable performance helps reduce the risk of delamination, degradation, and performance loss during long-term operation, contributing to the overall reliability of display modules.

The product also supports G+G (Glass + Glass) structures commonly used in automotive displays, enabling optical bonding between Cover Glass and ITO Glass. It provides a reliable optical bonding solution for applications including center displays, instrument clusters, and smart cockpits.

Versatile OCA Portfolio for Diverse Display Requirements

To support next-generation automotive displays, CROWN continues to expand its optical materials portfolio. In addition to UV Cut OCA, the portfolio includes silicone-based OCA, acrylic-based OCA, and Black OCA, providing diverse optical bonding solutions for different display structures, material systems, and application requirements.

Functional OCA for Next-Generation Automotive Displays

OCA is evolving from a conventional optical bonding material into a functional material that combines optical bonding, protection, and long-term reliability, becoming an increasingly important component of automotive display structures.

With optical bonding, UV protection, and high reliability at its core, CROWN UV Cut OCA provides a thin, reliable optical bonding solution for next-generation automotive displays, including OLED, large-format, curved displays, and smart cockpit applications—supporting the automotive display industry toward higher performance, reliability, and integration.
